Habitat: Freshwater wetlands with good vegetation cover, lakes, wet paddy fields, trees, coastal areas

Distribution: Pakistan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, south China to Vietnam

Diet: Water plants, grains, small fish, frogs, molluscs, worms

Distinguishing features: Brown, long-necked, broad wings visible in flight, produces loud two-note wheezy call
