Puttenahalli lake is now a clean water body

Puttenahalli lake at J.P. Nagar 7th Phase is no longer a cesspool of garbage and sewage. Today, it is a clean water body.

Earlier, sewage from nearby areas was being let into the lake directly. The Puttenahalli Neighbourhood Lake Improvement Trust (PNLIT) then decided to find a remedy and signed a memorandum of understanding with the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in May this year.

Usha Rajagopalan, member of the trust, has, in a statement, said that the BBMP initiated measures to fence the lake at a cost of Rs. 1.35 crore, constructed a gazebo and a toilet, and laid a walkway. Later, Enzen Water Solutions presented a proposal to clean the lake by using “a solution of nanonutrients”, an indigenously developed technology wherein specific microorganisms are introduced in the lake. These microorganisms feast on the pollutants, thereby cleaning the lake.

Easwar P., Head of Enzen Water Solutions, said, “Water sanitisation process in an ecosystem involves a major biological manipulation done in sync with soil and water that includes the reintroduction of absent native flora and fauna.”

He said that Enzen Water Solutions had been working closely with scientists and premier academic institutions in the country to develop a breakthrough nanonutrient solution. Enzen, BBMP and PNLIT had been monitoring the lake to improve the water quality.
